BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Early evening snow made it to the Champlain Valley Tuesday, falling quickly and coating the roads. However, the wind concern is what has Green Mountain Power taking extra precautions tonight.
“Vermont is seeing an increasing number of severe weather events due to climate change, and we track the weather very closely all the time so that we can respond as quickly as safely possible for our customers. We’ve more than doubled our field force bringing in external crews to work alongside our GMP crews,” said Kristen Kelly from G.M.P.
G.M.P. suggests having a charged phone and water handy in case of any outages. With the significant winds that are whipping through the area, they also want customers to be aware of their surroundings.
“We really want customers to be safe to know that this is a region wide storm and if they see any downlines or trees to stay far away from them and to give us a call,” said Kelly.
Those high winds caused power outages to hit many homes quickly. before 11:00 p.m., almost 5 thousand outages were recorded, hitting Addison and Rutland counties hardest.
