PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – Plattsburgh-area residents will no longer have to drive multiple miles to get their cannabis now that the region’s second recreational pot shop has opened its doors.
“We are pumped to be here,” said Santana Vicencio LaBarre with The Grass Hole. She says it took more than a year to obtain the state’s 37th retail license for the shop in the town of Plattsburgh. “There are so many ever-changing regulations dependent on how many hours you can be open, how many precautions you need to have in place, and it’s all very limited communication.”
However, LaBarre says the wait was worth it. “A lot of people know this used to be a car shop and he has turned into this gorgeous facility now, so we are super excited to be here,” she said.
Madison Worley also works at the shop and says they plan to make the location a hub along Route 3. “We want to do some events here. We want to have some food trucks. We just really want to have be a big staple of the community,” Worley said.
Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Michael Cashman says it’s a welcome addition. “This continues to follow very strict protocol as it relates to New York state, but we do recognize the business is the first of its kind in Clinton County,” he said.
In an annual report, the state’s Office of Cannabis Management says 40 retail licensed dispensaries were added last year with more than $150 million generated in revenue last year.
