SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Hartford man is due in court this morning after wreaking havoc on a South Burlington car dealership.

Around 1:30 Monday afternoon, South Burlington police went to Goss Dodge on Shelburne Road for a report of a stolen car.

46-year-old Shawn Carpenter is accused of jumping in a running vehicle and taking off as employees rearranged cars in the lot. Police say Carpenter struck multiple cars in the parking lot while while attempting to escape employees, as well as on Shelburne road while traveling south through South Burlington and Shelburne. Police found the stolen car in Charlotte, where Carpenter was attempting to break into another vehicle.

Carpenter was taken into state police custody after brandishing a knife toward officers. He’s lodged at Northwestern Correctional Facility on a $5,000 bail. He’s expected to answer to a slew of charges in court this morning.
