BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – An event this weekend is designed to help people dealing with loss process their grief with others.

Brattleboro Area Hospice is hosting what they call a Death Café. Organizers say it’s an informal group discussion where people can talk about anything related to end of life and death, in a confidential, compassionate, nonjudgmental setting with hope. They say it’s aimed at helping to take away some of the scariness and stigma around death and dying.

“I know for myself, having come to accept my own mortality and become comfortable talking about death, mine and other people’s, it liberated me, you know. It helped me to lead a life without fear and a more a richer life and a more comfortable life,” said Ruth Nangeroni of Brattleboro Area Hospice.

The Death Café is being held Saturday, Jan. 20, at Putney Friends Meeting from 1 p.m.-3 pm. People must sign up to attend because there is limited space. There are still a few spots open, but you must call or email to reserve a spot. Click here for more information on how you can RSVP.
