MORRISTOWN, Vt. (WCAX) – Due to a rise in crime, the Morristown Police Department is having a community conversation with residents and business owners.
According to the Morristown Police Chief Jason Luneau, over the summer, local businesses in town experienced a string of robberies and theft, and many of the perpetrators are repeat offenders.
The crime and concerns forum will be held at People’s Academy. Chief Luneau says he hopes the state can find a way to hold repeat offenders more accountable for the future so similar petty crimes happen less.
“Our hands are tied as law enforcement officers. We can only enforce what the laws are. The laws are obviously set by the legislature, so I think it needs to be looked at closely. It’s happening all throughout Vermont, not just here in Morristown,” said Chief Luneau.
The forum will take place on the 22nd, and questions about the forum can be sent to the Morristown Police Department.
