GROTON, Conn. (WCAX) – Police say the suspect in a Vermont murder has been arrested in Connecticut.
Shawn Conlon, 44, of Rhode Island, was taken into custody at a roadside hotel in Groton, Connecticut, on Wednesday morning.
Vermont State Police say Conlon strangled Claudia Voight, 73, in her Windham home on Feb. 20.
At first, investigators did not believe Voight’s death was suspicious, but then an autopsy revealed she was strangled.
State police say Conlon was renting a room in Voight’s home and stopped paying her rent in late 2022, but they say he stayed on in her house until he attacked and killed her.
The investigation led law enforcement to Rhode Island and then Connecticut, where Conlon was arrested.
He waived extradition and will be transferred back to Vermont to face a charge of second-degree murder.
Editor’s note: A previous version of this story said Conlon was arrested in Rhode Island. That was incorrect and we regret the error.
