WINDHAM, Vt. (WCAX) – A Windham murder suspect who was captured in Connecticut has been extradited to Vermont.
Vermont State Police say Shawn Conlon, 44, of Rhode Island, strangled Claudia Voight, 73, in her Windham home last February.
Conlon was arrested at a roadside motel in Groton, Connecticut, last month.
Police say Conlon was extradited to Vermont on Friday following a court hearing in Connecticut. He’s due in court in Brattleboro Friday afternoon on a charge of second-degree murder.
At first, investigators did not believe Voight’s Feb. 20 death was suspicious, but then an autopsy revealed she was strangled.
Police say Conlon was renting a room in Voight’s home and stopped paying her rent in late 2022, but stayed on in her house until he attacked and killed her.
The investigation led law enforcement to Rhode Island and then Connecticut, where Conlon was arrested on Dec. 20.
