BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Burlington city councilors have decided to put a 3-cent tax increase for public safety on the Town Meeting Day ballot.

If Burlington residents vote in favor of the tax, this would mean an increase of $150 per year for a $500,000 home. that’s in addition to an increase of more than $1,000 for the same-priced home for the school budget.

To keep the tax increase to 3 cents, Mayor Weinberger has also proposed doubling the gross receipts tax on hotels from 2% to 4%, along with cutting $3 million from the city budget.
