COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) – A Colchester artist is gearing up for a series of monoprinting workshops taking place over the coming months.

Carol MacDonald takes art to a different level. “It’s a lifeline for me,” she said. “It’s the way I reconnect with my inner core.”

The Colchester artist focuses on monoprinting, a type of printmaking where the image can only be made once. She offers workshops every four to five weeks year-round to teach others to create one-of-a-kind prints. “It’s a way for people to come in and make art in my studio. I provide all the materials, coaching, and demonstrations.

Susan Teare is among those who have taken her workshops and say it’s an unparalleled experience. “She always amazes me with new work and new ideas and new techniques,” she said

“It was very rewarding. I loved every moment… I get to come here to Carol’s studio, be with other artists who are free to make that side of us that needs to be more expressed.”

MacDonald says participants come away with not only a unique piece of art but also new friendships. “It’s a way to share and also an amazing community of other artists coming together to make work together,” she said. “A friend of mine says she always feels like she’s printing with the universe when she’s here working because she’ll come in with an idea and then something completely different will manifest itself.”

For anyone interested in trying something new, MacDonald says just go for it. “I would say go for your greatest vision and keep working and try that. What you most want to say needs to be heard,” she said.

Her next workshop is February 8 from 9 to 2.
