PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – A Democrat is stepping forward to announce his bid for the mayor’s seat in Plattsburgh.
Clinton County Legislator Wendell Hughes will declare his candidacy at the Government Center Wednesday morning, according to party officials.
The announcement comes less than a week after Mayor Chris Rosenquest said he would not seek reelection.
David Souliere, chair of the Plattsburgh Republican Committee, says they are still searching for a candidate. “We will be trying to find somebody that is in tune with the current city of Plattsburgh issues — so, affordable and available housing, access to youth recreation, as well as small business development and finding ways to decrease the tax burden on residential tax owners,” he said.
The official petition process kicks off on February 27. Candidates will need to secure more than 200 signatures by early April if they want to appear on the ballot.
