PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – Clinton County Legislator Wendell Hughes made it official on Wednesday– he’s running for mayor of Plattsburgh.

The Democrat says if elected, he wants to create a strong team that focuses on unity, progress and innovation.

Wendell was a corrections officer for 30 years, sits on several county committees like the health committee, and is also part of North Country Honor Flight.

He says he’s running because it’s time to unite Plattsburgh.

“I’m so sick of negative politics, I want more positive. I do not want to be complaining and complaining about things. Let’s fix them and let’s move forward,” Hughes said.

The chair of the City of Plattsburgh Republican Committee says as of Wednesday morning, no GOP candidates have stepped up to the plate. He also says it’s too early to know whether they will cross-endorse a candidate.
