MAONE, N.Y. (WCAX) – A new health facility is giving residents of New York’s North Country a closer option for essential care. Hudson Headwaters Health Network, a Federally Qualified Health Center, recently opened its 23rd primary care location in Malone.

Hudson Headwater’s Malone facility has been in operation for more than a month at the Alice Hyde Medical Center’s campus.

“We knew that there were access issues to primary care in the Malone community and we wanted to get here quickly and establish a presence,” said the network’s Pam Fisher.

Officials say patients in the area had been traveling to other municipalities for services, like newborn care. “We had over 800 patients that lived closer in proximity to this area that were commuting over an hour for visits that can now come here for their visits,” said the network’s Melissa Gooley,

There are six exam rooms at the new facility and it will eventually be staffed with three full-time providers.

The new location has already brought in new patients. “We have seen about 250 patients here in Malone since we opened, 20 of them being new patients,” said the network’s Chelsea Graham.

Fisher says they are also working with the hospital to establish a larger primary care location. “We are in the early planning stages of developing a standalone new primary care center in Malone,” she said.

“We are really excited to continue to grow — grow our team, grow our patient panel, and be a part of this community,” Gooley said.
