
TROY, Vt. (WCAX) – Police say they are investigating a suspicious death in Troy after a woman was found dead inside a large container on a sand bar in the Missisquoi River.
Vermont state police say at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, a caller reported finding the body in the area of Big Falls of Missisquoi State Park on River Road.
Troopers found the woman’s body there and began processing the scene for evidence.
The body was sent to the medical examiner’s office to determine the identity and the cause and manner of death.
Investigators say the body was found during a missing person’s investigation related to Kayla Wright, 29, of Derby. Wright was last seen in Troy on Feb. 2.
Police say their investigation continued through the night and troopers are now conducting interviews in the case and carrying out search warrants. No one is currently in custody and there is no word yet on any suspects.
Police say they believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.
