BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A fossil fuel fuel is now to be held in state court. That comes after the Vermont Attorney General’s office sued Exxon and other companies for greenwashing fossil fuel products.

The Vermont Attorney General filed the case back in 2021 but it was stalled after a jurisdiction dispute about whether it belonged in state or federal court.

The case alleges that the companies concealed or misrepresented the connection between their products and climate change, denying Vermont consumers the ability to make informed choices.

The defendants argued the case doesn’t belong in state court but a federal court ruled that it should be handled in Vermont courts because of the nature of the consumer protection claims.
