JERICHO, Vt. (WCAX) – Kids in Jericho are learning to read with the help of a four-legged fur ball.

Wyatt, a three-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog, is a staple at Deborah Rawson Memorial Library. He wagged his way in two years ago with a mission to share his love of books.

Children gather on weekends to cuddle up with and read to the therapy dog. He prefers the Elephant and Piggie series, but he’s flexible.

Olwen Hudson of Jericho is a long-time Wyatt fan.

“I like to read books!” Hudson said, Wyatt keeping her page with his nose.

Library staff say Wyatt creates a relaxing environment for kids to build their reading skills. You can schedule your own fifteen minute story time session with him once a month on Saturdays.
