IRASBURG, Vt. (WCAX) – VTrans is slated to receive $1.2 million in federal funding to repair a bridge destroyed by a propane truck crash in December.
Federal officials say the ‘quick release’ emergency relief funds will help restore Bridge 129 on Route 14.
“We know how important this bridge is to the people of Vermont,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in a statement. “The Biden-Harris administration is making these federal emergency funds available to help restore travel on this critical route as quickly and safely as possible.”
The crash on the morning of December 4 happened after the tanker operated by Northern Gas Transport slid off the bridge over the Black River. The resulting fire burned for over a day, compromising the bridge and forcing the evacuation of residents in a one-mile radius.
The DMV is leading the investigation into the cause and says it was likely weather-related. No one was injured in the crash.
