PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – The man accused of threatening a mass shooting at a Northern New York hospital appeared before a judge on Thursday.
Robert Thibodeau, 52, of Plattsburgh, is charged with a felony count of criminal possession of a loaded firearm.
Police say Thibodeau threatened to shoot upper management at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh after he was fired. And they say he was on his way there intending to open fire on hospital employees when he was arrested.
Investigators say Thibodeau’s brother called 911, providing the critical tip that allowed police to stop a possible mass shooting. They pulled Thibodeau over near the hospital with a loaded gun and ammunition.
Thibodeau was in the courtroom Thursday for a procedural court appearance. He’s expected to be back next month.
Robert Thibodeau is receiving resources for mental health support and remains behind bars.
