BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Millions flowing to communities along Lake Champlain working to improve water quality and ecosystem health.
The Patrick Leahy Lake Champlain Basin Program recently announced $6 million in grant money for the cause.
Applicants must live along the U.S. portion of the Lake Champlain basin and use funds to improve water quality, mitigate adverse effects of climate change or boost resiliency.
Mae Kate Campbell with the Lake Champlain Basin Program says she hopes the grants open doors for communities that are historically underserved.
“We want everyone to have access to a clean and healthy environment and water and also to have agency in decision-making processes,” Campbell explained.
Campbell says applicants can apply for up to $2 million in funding. Interested applicants can learn more at question-and-answer sessions in March. Applications are open until May 1.
