CLAREMONT, N.H. (WCAX) – New Hampshire schools went into lockdown after a shot was fired during a road rage incident.

Just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, Claremont police say they responded to reports of a shooting at the Cumberland farms.

On arrival, police say an unnamed man confronted 20-year-old Jeremiah Schofield in the parking lot due to road rage. The two got into a brief fight, which ended when Schofield pulled out a gun and fired one round.

Schofield was arrested and charged with attempt to commit first-degree assault and reckless conduct with a deadly weapon.

The Claremont public schools in the immediate area were temporarily put in a shelter-in-place order that was lifted as soon as officers confirmed there was no further threat to the public.

The incident is currently under investigation and police say more arrests are expected.
