MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – A bill to ban flavored tobacco in Vermont is moving forward.
Years in the making, bill S.18 would ban the sale of flavored nicotine products, like vaporizers and dip.
The House Ways and Means Committee voted 5-7 Friday, sending it on to the Appropriations Committee.
Supporters say it will improve the physical and mental health of kids, and will save money on long-term health care costs.
Skeptics point to a loss of tax revenue, the impact on businesses and question whether a prohibition would even have an effect on young people obtaining tobacco products.
