PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – Lawmakers in Albany are set to vote on a new congressional map for New York.

The state’s independent Redistricting Commission approved a new set of maps this month that made modest changes to the current districts, including New York’s 21st District, which Congresswoman Elise Stefanik represents.

It’s unclear if the new round of maps will receive the stamp of approval from the Democratic-controlled Legislature.

North Country Assemblyman Billy Jones says he isn’t sure yet how he will vote, and he would rather see a map that splits the North Country’s 21st District right down the middle.

“It would be a better fit for us to be having more representation with the federal government when it comes to infrastructure, border security, everything along those lines,” said Jones, D-Chateaugay Lake.

New York lawmakers have until Wednesday to approve the new map.
