BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Tri-partisan preliminary approval in the Vermont Senate for a bill prohibiting ghost guns.
S.209 is a bill designed to address the increase of ‘ghost guns’, which are homemade firearms that are not serialized nor traceable.
The bill would prohibit the possession and transfer of these firearms.
It also establishes a process for federal firearms dealers and licenses to print serial numbers on unserialized firearms.
Nationally, the U.S. Department of Justice says the number of ghost guns recovered by law enforcement agencies “increased by more than 13 hundred percent from 2016 to 2022.
Because these guns are not traceable, they inhibit law enforcement’s ability to solve gun crimes.
The bill is up for a third reading in the Senate on today.
