WILLISTON, Vt. (WCAX) – It may only be the beginning of March, but the sun is out and one Vermont golf course is packed.

“It’s been very, very busy,” said Edward Ratte of the Catamount Country Club.

The phone is ringing off the hook at Williston’s Catamount Country Club with golfers asking whether the course if open for an early season round.

“We’re probably right now the only course open in Vermont,” Ratte said.

The mild weather has allowed golfers to get out on the green much earlier than usual.

“It’s really nice weather. It’s crazy, we actually played here, my girlfriend and I, Dana, she and I played here maybe a month ago, so it’s just like really nice weather,” said Kanika Gandhi of South Burlington.

Gandhi was out on Monday and says the terrain can be tough to manage but it’s nothing new.

“Last summer was a pretty muddy golf season in general, so I think we’re all kind of used to it at this point, balls plugging in the middle of the fairway. But yeah, you just have to adjust the club up a little bit and change your swing slightly,” Gandhi said.

Ratte says the sunshine is doing wonders for the course.

“I think this probably the best early season we’ve had with March,” he said.

And for players…

“If you love golf, and you want to groove your swings and the weather is permitting, instead of staying at home doing nothing, this is the place to come,” said Bernie Delorme of St. Albans.
