MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – Some of the employees at a Vermont hospital have voted to unionize.

Three-hundred support staffers and technical employees at the Porter Medical Center in Middlebury voted Wednesday in favor of organizing a union. The count was 204-30 to join AFT Vermont.

The workers say they plan to begin negotiations to improve wages, benefits, working conditions and the quality of patient care.

The new group joins 100 registered nurses at Porter who organized in 2013.
