TUNBRIDGE, Vt. (WCAX) – Residents in Tunbridge allocated more money for public safety on Town Meeting Day.
In an amended floor vote, community members approved an additional $40,000 to be used for more police patrols in town. Tunbridge currently contracts with the Royalton Police Department but, the selectboard is considering a new contract with the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department as neighboring Chelsea has done, despite the department being located in a different county.
“The budget itself was approved and it was just for policing. There weren’t parameters on who exactly we were going to hire. Our selectboard is really great about listening to all of the public input,” said Tunbridge Town Clerk Mariah Cilley.
The town’s current contract with Royalton is up at the end of June.
