BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – If your eclipse plans include hitting the open water, New York state officials have guidance for you.

New York’s Parks and Recreation Office is reminding people that rain or shine, the water will be dangerously cold for the eclipse on April 8th.

Officials say that boaters and paddlers should remember to wear a life jacket and insulated clothes, let someone know where you’re going, and keep your phone and a light in a waterproof bag when on the water.

And whether you’re on the water or not, eclipse glasses are required if you’re trying to catch a glimpse.
