RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – The Rutland County Humane Society continues its search for new property after a recent deal to purchase property in Rutland Town fell through.

Officials recently launched a search for a new location because their current building in Pittsford doesn’t have the space or the amenities to adequately take care of the animals they receive. The current shelter on Stevens Road opened in 1967 and officials say they are looking for some upgrades in space, HVAC, and laundry.

“It would decrease what’s called length of stay so the amount of time that they’re with us — because they wouldn’t get sick and they wouldn’t have to kind of stick around for extra time. So, they could stay healthy, go for adoption faster, and get adopted faster, which would allow us to help more and other animals as well. It impacts a lot of different pieces of the animal welfare while they’re with us,” said the organization’s Beth Saradarian.

She says they say they’re looking for 5 to 10 acres in Rutland County off a main road, and that have already received many suggestions.
