SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Easter bunny is coming tomorrow and grocery stores and markets are preparing for the big day, making sure they are stocking up on eggs.

But customers might have a little sticker shock as the price of eggs in higher than usual. The average prices in the United States is around four dollars but prices range from anywhere between three to seven dollars. Experts say it’s typical for the demand of eggs to increase as Easter and other spring holidays approach.

“The uptick in demand can put pressure on egg supplies leading to higher prices and we’ve also seen an uptick in avian flue and inclement weather so both of which can impact the supply of eggs,” Erin Sigrist of Vermont Retail and Grocers Association said.

Experts say increasing the costs are due to the cost to feed the birds and the cost to transport the birds or eggs.
