BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Kids at the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington took some time to learn about the Great American Eclipse.
The event was put on in partnership with M&T Bank, the Boys and Girls Club, and former teacher Carrie Cruz, also known as the ‘Planetarium Lady’.
Cruz put out a blow-up dome for students to sit in and talk about all things solar eclipse. Students learned about the path of totality, the distance between the moon and the sun, moon phases, and the moon’s orbit.
Boys and Girls Club officials say they know this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students and wanted to make sure they understood how to watch safely.
“There is not going to be an eclipse for another 92 years, which is really crazy, so I am so happy I am in the era. If I was 10 years later I wouldn’t be able to do this,” said Burlington resident Riley Savage.
The ‘Planetarium Lady’ wants to remind you to only take off the protective glasses when the moon has completely covered the sun during totality at 3:26 p.m., but you must put your glasses back on at 3:29 p.m.
