BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Woods management practices are heating up in Vermont’s Green Mountain Forest.

The National Forest Service announced the plan to treat up to 600 square feet of the national forest with prescribed fires.

They say the management tool cuts down on accumulations of grass and brush which have the potential for large and uncontrollable wildfires.

The Green Mountain National Forest Service says there shouldn’t be any impact on local residents, but smoke could make driving conditions difficult next to prescribed burns.

There is no set date when these burns will start.
