BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – For people trying to avoid crowds on the day of the eclipse, New York’s backcountry may seem like the place to be – but officials are asking you to reconsider.
After the snow over the last few days and warming temperatures on the way, New York Governor Kathy Hochul says it could be a recipe for disaster for inexperienced people headed into the Adirondacks for the eclipse.
She says the fast melt could result in extremely muddy trails, swollen and impassable rivers, and even avalanches or mudslides.
Hochul says if you go to state parks, stay on the designated trails in the viewing area.
