COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont state Sen. Dick Mazza is resigning from his position in Montpelier.
The longtime Vermont lawmaker sent a letter to Gov. Phil Scott saying due to health reasons, he is unable to continue to serve his hometown of Colchester and Grand Isle County.
Mazza was diagnosed with cancer which has kept him away from the Statehouse.
The Democrat has served for more than 42 years in Montpelier.
In a statement, Gov. Scott, R-Vermont, said, in part, “It would be difficult to find a Vermonter who has been more impactful, committed or dedicated to public service over the past four decades than Senator Dick Mazza.”
