BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Crews on land and in the water are working on upgrades to the new waterfront at the Community Sailing Center in Burlington.
It used to be at the Moran plant, but when the city redeveloped the plant, the sailing center needed to find a new spot which is now just down the waterfront on Lake Street.
The new waterfront will bring a 50-foot pier, a deep-water boat launch with two cranes and ADA accessibility.
The sailing center is still open to the public and officials say this will be a big upgrade for the shores of Lake Champlain and the greater region.
“This will probably be one of the most state-of-the-art waterfront and community sailing centers in the country, especially in New England,” said Owen Milne, the executive director of the Community Sailing Center.
The project costs about $3 million. Most of it has been paid through private donations but they are still raising 4% through public donations.
They hope to have a ribbon cutting on June 1.
