RICHMOND, Vt. (WCAX) – A Vermont business is trying to generate buzz by taking its hydration game to a whole new level.
“We have a gravity flow patented system that allows you to pour and drink really easily. So, we wanted to highlight that feature,” said Carina Hamel with Bivo, a Richmond-based company that makes metal water bottles designed for cyclists or other athletes who want their water fast.
Hamel says the “Bivo Chug Challenge” is all about showing off the fast flow. “It’s based off of an old… well, off of the boat race, which is a drinking game in college. We never intended for people to drink as fast as possible but we are told often that you do drink more water when you’re drinking out of a Bivo,” she said.
They’re challenging teams of three to each drink 21 ounces of water as fast as they can one at a time. Those who beat their combined time of 26 seconds, you could win a prize.
Max Luthy, with local beverage startup, Plink, is joining in on the fun. “Both of us are both building anti-plastic businesses with an environmental mission at their core. I massively admire them. So, it was a no-brainer to join this challenge with the team,” he said.
The Bivo team is urging would-be contestants to use caution and not attempt this more than once per day. Normal water consumption is safe but medical experts say that drinking excessive amounts of water in a short period can be harmful, even fatal.
