BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Monday is the deadline to file your state and federal taxes on time.

In addition to the deadline for state and federal returns, Vermont tax officials are also reminding folks that Homestead Declarations and Property Tax Credit Claims should also be filed by April 15. They say people may want to file a personal income tax return even if their income is below the requirement to file because they might be eligible for tax credits, including child tax credits, child and dependent care credits, and the earned income tax credit. They say the fastest way to get your refund is to file your return electronically and request direct deposit.

Watch the Channel 3 News at 5 on Thursday. Darren Perron will speak with Vermont Tax Commissioner Craig Bolio about some of the other details for filers to keep in mind, as well as tips to avoid scams and identity theft.
