BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Monday, April 15 is the last day to file your taxes before the IRS implements penalty fees.
A few people may have extensions to the April 15th deadline. Maine and Massachusetts residents have until Wednesday because of state holidays, and anyone living in federally declared disaster areas also have more time.
April 15 is also the last day to file an extension, allowing until October 15th to file your taxes.
If you don’t file, the IRS will implement a 5% penalty for every month you’re late.
Vermont tax officials say that Homestead Declarations and Property Tax Credit Claims should also be filed by April 15. They say people may want to file a personal income tax return even if their income is below the requirement to file because they might be eligible for tax credits, including child tax credits, child and dependent care credits, and the earned income tax credit.
