MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Local grocery stores are letting communities know that April is Earth Month.

Hunger Mountain Co-op is doing a “Slash your Trash” program for April. The store encourages shoppers to take action and reduce their garbage footprint.

The grocer says shoppers should buy local, organic produce, and use reusable bags. Customers can recycle any paper or bottles in the provided bins.

The co-op then takes it to a recycling center.

“It’s really at the core of who we are. It’s extremely important, we try to provide as much opportunity for people to lessen their impact while shopping. The co-op itself has also done a lot to reduce its overall impact,” said owner Rowan Sherwood.

Shoppers can utilize the EV charging station they have outside as well.
