BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Members of the Biden administration were in Burlington Wednesday looking at the city’s progress on affordable housing.
Officials with the Department of Housing and Urban Development joined the Burlington mayor and other officials at the new Cambrian Rise development on the waterfront. They say that mixed-income developments like Cambrian are the gold standard of what should be happening around the region.
There are around 400 affordable housing units in the pipeline around the state, according to the Champlain Housing Trust, and most make use of funding from HUD. In Burlington, officials say Cambrian Rise includes a number of affordable units, with more on the way.
“You got a great park path access, you have Lake access. And you have essentially what is a mixed-income neighborhood that is probably as I stated outside, one of the most diverse income neighborhoods in the state of Vermont, certainly. And anywhere that I would know,” CHT’s Michael Monte.
He says that the state has given incredible amounts of financial support to make developments like this possible and he is urging the state to continue that support.
