BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Fifty years ago, an organization aimed at combating sexual violence got its start.

It started in 1974 as Women Against Rape, with a hotline that volunteers answered during the night. It’s come a long way in the five decades since. It’s now called Hope Works. They field upwards of 2,300 calls per year and their mission continues to be ending all forms of sexual violence.

As part of Sexual Violence Awareness Month, Cat Viglienzoni spoke with the organization’s Natania Carter about progress they’ve made over the years and ongoing challenges.
