LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (WCAX) – A new primary care facility is coming to Lake Placid this summer, further expanding access to health care in New York’s North Country.

“We will be primarily focused on primary care, preventative medicine, and same-day access,” said Melissa Gooley with Hudson Headwaters Health Network:

She says the organization is awaiting approval for what would be its 24th facility, which would be located in the former emergency room inside the Adirondack Health Building.

If approved, the new facility would have five exam rooms and four rotating providers that will treat patients in the area. “We are estimating about 2,500 patients to take on this primary care panel,” Gooley said.

A new option that Hudson Headwater’s Chelsea Graham says will help cut down the drive time for those living in the Olympic Village. “I have friends and family who travel quite a ways to get primary care because it is not readily available in Lake Placid currently,” she said.

The new location will also have a virtual option for behavioral health services, something that could reduce the mental health care gap in Essex County, where there is one provider for every 750 patients.

“It would be helpful to have another provider in Essex County, one that we can trust and is really motivated to address the individuals,” said Terri Morse with Essex County Community Service.

Graham says renovations have already started inside the old emergency room and they hope to be open in late June.
