BARRE, Vt. (WCAX) – Several people were arrested following an incident in Barre City on Friday afternoon.
According to the Barre City Police Department, officers responded to an apartment on South Main Street for a report of a fight. When officers arrived, they were told one of the men had a rifle and may have retreated to the basement. They say another group of men were reported to be hiding in the stairwell upstairs.
Police evacuated the apartment and as a precaution, Spaulding High School and Barre City Elementary and Middle School were asked not to release students for after-school dismissal.
Police say when they searched the basement it was empty, but then found four men upstairs in the building. Police seized 87.16 grams of cocaine, 22.5 grams of fentanyl, several thousand dollars in cash, a 9mm pistol and an AR-15 style rifle.
One of the four men was a 15-year-old missing juvenile from Springfield, Mass. who was released to his parents pending a later court date. Police say two of the other men are Lamaar Saint and Manuel Rogers. The fourth man is Joseph Maitin, 23, Middletown, N.Y.
Saint, Rogers, and Maitin are being held on $200,000 bail and are set to appear in Washington County Court on Monday, April 22.
The men are all being charged with fentanyl trafficking, sale of cocaine, dispensing out of a dwelling, and possession of a regulated drug.
