SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Hinesburg residents Sharon and Tim White brought their RV from Pete’s RV center about 10 years ago.

They’ve had different RVs throughout the years but now they are looking for a new one when they plan to retire.

The Whites say they enjoy coming to Pete’s.

“It’s just a way to get out of the house, we’ve been cooped up all winter. It’s nice to wander around and look at different things sort of get your imagination going,” Tim White said.

Cody May of Pete’s RV Center says they’ve sold around 350 RVs since January out of Vermont’s location.

“Generally speaking, the market itself nationwide is a little bit down we haven’t personally felt that affect us just yet. We have a fairly large market share in Vermont,” May said.

But despite the market changing, outdoor lovers still enjoy using their RVs.

“People still love to go camping and we’ve seen quite a boom since the COVID era. A lot of people having the opportunity to work from home now has created an entirely new population of people that are interested in camping now,” May said.

May says the best time of year to buy an RV is actually in the wintertime but more people come in during springtime to start looking for a new RV for the summer.

“We just started seeing increased foot traffic every day yesterday we had 25 walk-ins in one day so big days ahead for sure,” May said.

Cody May says the busiest time is typically middle of march until July.

As for Sharon White, she says having an RV creates memories with her family.

“It’s just a great inexpensive getaway without a ton of planning for some big, huge trip and we do take you know maybe a couple of longer distance trips every season, but you know we’re talking about going to Maine or something,” Sharon White said.
