CASTLETON, Vt. (WCAX) – Student-athletes in Castleton hit the pavement Thursday for a campus cleanup.
It’s the second year the Castleton Student Athlete Advisory Committee has held the event designed to give maintenance crews some help sprucing up campus before graduation.
Each of Castleton’s 20 teams had one or two people show up, proving to be a larger-than-expected volunteer effort.
“Big help from the coaches to be able to get their teams out here and just get everyone to be able to do the work, because there’s a lot of stuff to do on campus, and we had a lot of volunteers for it,” said SAAC president Zack Durr.
“We do a lot throughout the community but it’s kind of nice to bring it back home and do something for the place that we live and we call home,” said Emily Lowell, Castleton’s field hockey coach.
“I’ve lived here my whole life, so I really like to volunteer and this is just another thing to show my appreciation to the community,” added Sierra McDermott, a field hockey player.
The SAAC says they hold some type of community service event each season at the campus.
