ENOSBURG, Vt. (WCAX) – Dogs will soon have the chance to stretch their legs off leash and meet each other, all thanks to the idea of one Enosburg 6th grader.

Cate Bennett knew dogs in town needed to be leashed at all times, and she wanted them to have a place to run free. She proposed a dog park to Enosburg officials to boost the pups’ physical and social life.

With the money Bennett won from an award and some donations, she decided to donate to the recreation department to get the ball rolling on a dog park project.

“It will be good for the dogs and apparently it’ll be good for the humans as well,” said Bennett.

“It’s really exciting it’s great to see kids in the area who are invested in where they’re living and want to bring new things to the area,” said Enosburg Recreation Director Margo Longway.

The community dog park plot is right behind the Enosburg Fire Department and near other rec fields. With stakes already in the ground to get the project moving, Bennett hopes the park will open this spring or summer.
