FAIR HAVEN, Vt. (WCAX) – A former factory in Vermont that built mobile homes for communities across New England could open once again.

The Skyline Corporation in Fair Haven closed its doors in 2011.

The town recently applied for a state grant that would pay for a study on the impacts the factory had on Fair Haven and what the factory still has to offer for a possible buyer.

If chosen, they could get up to $60,000 if they get a 10% match.

Former factory employee and Fair Haven Selecboard Chair Bob Richards supports the idea.

“They were a very good corporate citizen. They put in water lines, sewage lines, their people were, helped with the economy after work, people would go grab sandwiches in the middle of the day, they would grab their groceries when they left. So, 120 people were kind of handy to have around and we would love to have something like that back here again,” Richards said.

A public hearing before Tuesday night’s select board meeting at 7 p.m. will lay out some of the next steps for the town.
