HINESBURG, Vt. (WCAX) – Plans are moving forward in Hinesburg to replace its wastewater treatment facility.

The town’s current wastewater discharge doesn’t meet state standards. They’ve been trying to bring their facility up to code for the last several years.

Now, after narrowing down four bids on the project, Town Manager Todd Odit says construction should start in the next month or so on the $12.5 million project.

“It’s not a project that the town chose to do, it was a project that they were forced to do. You know, one benefit is we will have more wastewater capacity so we can handle more growth than we would have been able to handle with our current lagoon system,” Odit said.

He warns people who bird watch to avoid the area during construction.

The facility is expected to be finished within the next two years.
