BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Wednesday is the start of the regular spring turkey season.
The season runs for the month of May, ending on May 31.
Shooting hours are from 30 minutes before sunrise to noon and hunters can use archery or shotgun equipment.
Two bearded turkeys can be taken and must be reported to Vermont Fish and Wildlife within 48 hours.
This season also marks the 51st hunting season since wild turkeys were reintroduced to Vermont by the Fish and Wildlife Department.
On Tuesday, local, state, and federal leaders delivered a message to Vermonters to be smart with firearms – and the U.S. Attorney’s Office kicked off a week focusing on gun safety efforts in Vermont.
Their motto: “Keep your gun safe – keep your people safe.”
It’s a follow-up to their original kickoff last year.
Leaders say since then, they have pushed gun safety education and handed out more than 4,000 free cable locks statewide so people can lock up their guns.
