BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A political consultant in New Hampshire is facing big fines for fake phone calls.

It happened in January, the weekend before the New Hampshire primary.

Steve Kramer allegedly admitted to making illegal robocalls, using a deepfake AI voice message of President Biden telling people not to vote in the primary.

Kramer spoofed the phone number to defraud thousands of voters.

The Federal Communications Commission proposed a $6 million fine this week.

Kramer will have a chance to respond before the FCC issues a final decision. He is also facing multiple felony counts of voter suppression.
