COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) – Major League Baseball is now integrating statistics from the Negro Leagues into its official database.

Seven different Negro Leagues from 1920 – 1948 would be recognized as major leagues.

Following a three-year research project, more than 2300 players, like Josh Gibson, are now being included in the MLB. The incorporation of Negro League statistics now changes the numbers of numerous players known more for their major league career.

“It’s about time. These gentlemen were not given a good shake of making the major leagues not all of them at the same and they were all good,” Colchester resident Michael Coccetti said.

The MLB plans to honor the Negro Leagues by playing its first-ever game at a longtime Negro League field, Rickwood Field, this month.
