MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont authorities are accusing three mental health providers of Medicaid fraud.
The Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud and Residential Abuse Unit Monday filed a civil action against Massachusetts psychotherapist Robert Martin DuWors and his business associate, Peter Lang, of conspiring to “upcode,” billing for Vermont Medicaid patients with inaccurate information. They say Lang’s time was billed at the full rate of a licensed psychotherapist even though he is not licensed in the state. They also say investigators found evidence that DuWors routinely billed for “impossible time,” claiming to provide more than 24 hours of services on a single date.
In a separate case, Rutland-based mental health counselor Lauren Ann LaSante was accused of Medicaid Fraud after refusing to provide Vermont Medicaid treatment records to state authorities.
